General Information
The Bermuda economy generates a strong demand for qualified accountants and the Office of the Auditor General, like all organizations in Bermuda requiring qualified accountants, is continually recruiting these persons. If no Bermudians are available, recruiting efforts are directed overseas. Potential candidates should have a qualification which is acceptable to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bermuda. The Bermuda Institute is an affiliated member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Positions which often come available to overseas applicants are Staff Auditor II, Senior Staff Auditor and Audit Manager. Candidates are usually hired on a 3-year contract with the possibility of renewal. Salaries range between $83,504 -$103,380 (BDA$ = US$).
There is no income tax in Bermuda but employees can expect to pay approximately 5% of salary in non-refundable deductions, plus another 5% refundable plus interest at the end of the contract.
Return travel for candidate, spouse and up to two children, and shipping and resettlement allowances are provided. Because of the high cost of living in Bermuda, recruiting families with more than two children is discouraged. Employment for spouse is sometimes available (especially if spouse has a professional qualification) but is not guaranteed.
Persons interested in employment possibilities in the Office of the Auditor General are encouraged to research other Bermuda websites for information in such areas as cost of living, education, health and recreation, or contact the Office of the Auditor General directly.
